Biography

I believe art is an extension of ones soul. I'm attracted primarily by the evocative power of colors, shapes and symbols that have traveled through time that bring with them the power to heal. Therefore, I find myself working with many mediums from day to day, year to year.

Currently, I am creating large canvas paintings,in acrylics and mixed media. Smaller versions of my canvas pieces are also available on ebay in the form of Art Card Edition and Originals (ACEOs). I have also continued to create one of a kind jewelry pieces.

I have also continued my commercial art projects in the form of the promotion design for musicians.

A Little Bit of History

Christina started jewelry making at the age of 18. While all her friends in Austin, Texas were musicians, she had a job making earrings that were sold across the country. At the time she deemed herself a seamstress, not a jewelry maker because sewing and embroidery was an art that her very traditioal Spanish mother taught her at a very young age.

In her twenties, Christina was married with two children. She rarely had funds to purchase nice gifts so she created handmade gifts for family and friends. Later, when she could afford to purchase gifts, her handmade gifts continued to be a commodity that everyone has looked forward to receiving.

In the 80s, divorced with children, Christina went back to school and got a degree in Commercial Art. She moved to Los Angeles California, worked for an advertising agency, but missed Texas. She traded in the west coast beach for the opportunity to be a starving artist in Austin again. Round two of the starving artist tour lasted until 1991. After spending the holiday season doing open air art shows with runny nosed children in tow, she went to place an ad in the local newspaper and decided that working in a heated office was not such a bad idea. She was hired immediately as a graphic designer and worked in the Marketing Department of a major newspaper for fifteen years.

The desire to create her own art never died. Armed with her collection of mixed media, she continues on her journey. Creating simple but elegant art that can either be an unexpected conversation-starter, or as familiar as your favorite sweater. Ultimately, things that make one feel special because they’re thoughtfully handcrafted.
